Highlights from the game:

The Shot: “That’s not a shot, that’s a statement!” Said Sourav Ganguly on commentary as Dhawan pulled Taskin Ahmed for a flat six in the eighth over to follow up on a couple of boundaries. Indian batsmen played a tens of outstanding strokes today, but that six from Dhawan stood out.

The Delivery: Bumrah is India’s best death overs bowler and he didn’t disappoint today. Bumrah gave just 39 runs in his 10 overs and picked up two wickets. The first of those wickets, a well set Mahmadullah just about to take off was outdone by the perfect Yorker on the base of off stump that flattened the pole.

The Drop: Pandya had a terrible day with the ball. He bowled two no balls, the second of which could have been a wicket as Tamim played on. He leaked 34 runs in his four overs and had no wickets to show. He could have had a wicket, when in the 39th over Mahmadullah slashed at a short delivery from Pandya only for Ashwin to drop a catch that should have been taken at this level at third man fence.

The Blunder: MS Dhoni’s streetsmart thinking behind the wickets usually earns India unlikely stumpings and runouts. However, today it cost his team five runs as Dhoni lost a glove to have a throw at the stumps but ended up hitting the removed glove resulting in Bangladesh being awarded five penalty runs.

The surprise: It is unlikely that Bangladesh would have discussed Kedar Jadhav the bolwer in their team meeting before the game. They were poised for a big score at 154-2 when Kohli out of desperation went to Jadhav. Jadhav’s slow off spin bowled with a low arm proved to be a tricky prospect for Bangladesh as he  picked up Tamim and Mushfiqur Rahim reducing Bangladesh to 179-5. Bangladesh could never fully recover from those jolts in the middle.
